Speech Assistant AAC – Privacy Policy

Last Updated: May 14, 2026

Speech Assistant AAC ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application — an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tool designed to help non-verbal users communicate.

SPEECH ASSISTANT AAC PRIVACY POLICY

1. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information to provide and improve the app:

  • Account Information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple User ID and, if you choose to share it, your name and email address. This is used to create and restore your account across devices.
  • User Content: The phrases, categories, custom symbols (images), and personal voice recordings you create are stored securely in your account on Firebase (Google Cloud). This data belongs entirely to you.
  • Usage Analytics: Anonymous analytics about app usage patterns collected via Firebase Analytics. This data cannot identify you personally and is used solely to improve the app.
  • Support Communications: If you contact us by email, we collect your messages and any information you choose to share.
Important: We do NOT sell your data. Your phrases, symbols, and voice recordings are private to your account and never shared with third parties.

2. Device Permissions

Speech Assistant AAC requests the following device permissions:

  • Camera (TrueDepth / Face ID camera): Used exclusively for ARKit head tracking to allow users to control the app using head movements. Camera data is processed entirely on-device by ARKit and is never stored or transmitted.
  • Microphone: Used to record personal voice clips that you attach to phrases. Recordings are stored in your private Firebase account and never shared.
  • Photo Library: Used when you choose to add a custom image or symbol to a phrase tile. Only the specific image you select is accessed; we do not scan your photo library.
  • Speech Recognition: Used on-device only to provide text suggestions when composing phrases via the keyboard. No audio is sent to our servers.
All sensor data (camera, microphone during tracking, speech recognition) is processed entirely on your device by Apple frameworks. Only content you explicitly save (recordings, images) leaves your device — and only to your private Firebase account.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Store and sync your phrases, categories, symbols, and voice recordings across your devices
  • Restore your complete communication board when you sign in on a new device
  • Improve and optimise the app experience based on anonymous usage patterns
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Fix bugs and resolve technical issues
  • Process and validate subscription purchases

4. Cloud Sync (Firebase)

Speech Assistant AAC uses Firebase (Google Cloud) to securely sync your communication board across devices:

  • Your phrases and categories are stored in Firebase Firestore under your user account.
  • Custom symbol images and personal voice recordings are stored in Firebase Storage under your private user path (users/{your-id}/...).
  • Only you can access your data. Firestore and Storage security rules enforce strict per-user access controls.
  • You can request deletion of all your cloud data at any time by contacting us or using the Delete Account option in Settings.

5. Data Retention

  • Account & Content Data: Retained until you delete your account. Deleting your account removes all phrases, categories, symbols, and recordings from our servers.
  • Analytics Data: Retained by Firebase for up to 14 months.
  • Support Emails: Retained for as long as necessary to resolve your request, then deleted.

How to Delete Your Data

To delete all your data associated with Speech Assistant AAC:

  • Open the app → Go to Settings → Tap Account → Tap Delete Account
  • This permanently removes your account, all phrases, categories, custom symbols, and voice recordings from Firebase.
  • Or email us at keerthibommareddy94@gmail.com and we will delete your data within 30 days.

6. Third-Party Services

Speech Assistant AAC uses the following third-party services:

7. Children's Privacy

Speech Assistant AAC is designed to support users of all ages, including children with communication disabilities, when set up and supervised by a caretaker or parent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without parental consent. The app is configured by a caretaker/parent who controls the account. If you believe your child's data has been collected without your consent, please contact us immediately and we will promptly delete it.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you (contact us by email)
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Opt out of analytics by disabling analytics tracking in iOS Settings
  • Revoke camera, microphone, or photo library access at any time via iOS Settings → Speech Assistant AAC
